Health inequalities, event success

30 May 2024

Thank you all so much for joining us at the Health Inequalities: Partnership event!

We hope you had a wonderful time at the event, enjoying the delicious food and the opportunity to network, but also hearing from our speakers on the wonderful work that is underway in order for our community to start well, live well and age well regardless of their background or circumstances.

So, huge thanks to our speakers for their contributions to the day…

Deborah Fenney, Fellow, Policy, The Kings Fund, Carol Wagstaff- Research Dean, UoR, Steve GoldenSmith- BOB ICB, Heike Veldtman- Berkshire West, Ingrid Slade- Wokingham Borough Council, Martin White- Reading Borough Council, Priya Singh- Frimley ICB, Rebecca Curley- Slough Community Development, Esther Oenga, Sally Lloyd-Evans & Eva Karanja, CPAR, UoR, Peter Phiri– University of Southampton/Southern Health NHS Trust, Nicola Edmunds & Val Rose- Health Reach Team UoR, Kathryn MacDermott- BHFT, Mark Sellman & Priya Kumar- Frimley ICS, Vicky Li- UoR, Julia Tassano-Edgecombe & Rachael Smart- Florey, RBFT, Janet Lippett- CMO RBFT, Katie Prichard-Thomas- CNO, RBFT, Steve McManus, CEO, RBFT & Robert Van de Noort, VC, UoR

On the day, we asked our audience what the highlight of the event was for them and so many of those responses indicated how fantastic it was to hear about ‘the different initiatives and the opportunities for further collaboration,’ ‘learning about local initiatives and successes’ and ‘the passion from each speaker for change and improvement.’

At the end of the day, we also asked you what we should be doing together, to tackle health inequalities. The overwhelming response to this question, was that we should be more transparent with our work, and communicate with all sectors, to work together in this space. The wealth of shared information has the ability to transform the way we work, so we should be getting ‘communities involved’ and doing ‘A little less conversation and a little more action!’

If you wanted to catch up on any content from the day, we have uploaded a video capturing all speakers here.

To support more action, I want to use this opportunity as a reminder of the Collaboration Innovation Fund run by the Health Innovation Partnership. The call is launching in July and will give colleagues an opportunity to apply for up to £60k in funding for a project duration of 2 years. This is a great opportunity to formalise partnership working, to support your work in Health Inequalities. If you need any more information, reach out to the HIP Facilitator: Sohail.Akhtar@royalberkshire.nhs.uk

Lastly, as learning organisations, we are keen to get your feedback on the event and what we could do to improve future collaborative events. If you have a few minutes, please do take a moment to contribute, here: https://forms.office.com/e/JRiH6PBwEK
